A monochrome version of this image, taken on a dull and rainy day in Copenhagen, Denmark, won first prize in the monthly competition in our photo club. I only took a few photos but had to wait a while for the right moment. I was lucky to get the right distance between the two persons.

The white horses at Christiansborg Palace belong to one of the few royal stables in Europe. The horses and the state coaches are used by the Queen and the royal family for special occasions such as weddings and state visits.

A new lightbox: World Cities Travel Stock Photogra

A New Post From Christopher Berggren http://GlobalEyeImages.com/portfolio/CBerggren

I’ve just posted a new set of Travel photos to my website. World Cities Travel is a lightbox of 14 Stock Photos that could be useful for a variety of commercial uses.

World Cities Travel includes fine photography of some of the world’s top travel destinations including Sydney, Stockholm, San Francisco, San Diego, New York, and Los Angeles.

What makes World Cities Travel cities special? Each of the cities profiled have large tourism sectors because of their popularity, which results from water front and other natural settings, global cultural standing, and a plethora of events and exhibitions throughout the year.

Sydney functions as the tourist capital of Australia in that it draws the largest number of visitors to the country than anywhere else, and has many outstanding features such as its one hundred urban beaches, extensive reserves and parklands, eclectic urban zones, museums, and its annual Sculpture By The Sea which is held each November along the stunning Bondi to Bronte walking track.

Stockholm is Sweden’s stunningly situated capital, set among 14 Western Baltic Sea archipelago islands that sees warmer summer weather than other places further south in Europe. The city is filled with bike and pedestrian trails, attractive streets and parks, and has one of the world’s best public transportation systems.

New York City is the largest city and greatest tourist magnet of the United States of America, with San Francisco following in second place, with its status as America’s most attractive large city and base for travel to the many natural wonders of the American Southwest, such as the Grand Canyon. Both San Diego and Los Angeles, as the other two major tourist urban centers of California, have large numbers of visitors, particularly Los Angeles.

Known as the City of Angels, Los Angeles is a vast coastal city with many cultural and recreational activities on offer including the beaches, the LA County Museum, Disneyland, Holl

A new lightbox: Urban Bikes and Bicycle Transporta

A New Post From Christopher Berggren http://GlobalEyeImages.com/portfolio/CBerggren

I’ve just posted a new set of photos to GlobalEye Stock. Urban Bikes and Bicycle Transportation is a lightbox of 22 photographs that could be useful for a variety of users.

Bike riding is popular in places where infrastructure is geared toward safety and practical travel.

10 Reasons to Ride a Bike to Work or School

1) Bicycles provide mobility for those who may not qualify or afford to drive. Not everyone can get a driver’s license (or wants one), and the cost of purchasing, insuring and maintaining a car is out of reach for a lot of people. Almost everyone can afford some sort of bike. Other than walking, bicycles are the most cost-effective transportation on the planet.

2) You can store a dozen bicycles in a single automobile-sized parking place. Parking lots have enormous environmental and financial impact, particularly in urbanized areas. The more bikes you can get on the road, the fewer parking spaces you need to build.

3) Bicycling may be faster and more efficient than taking a car. We’re not talking about the crazy — and illegal — antics of New York bicycle messengers. But bikes are often faster than cars in urban areas, especially when city designers have set aside proper bike lanes. There’s nothing more satisfying as a bicycle commuter than breezing past a long line of gridlocked traffic.

4) Studies show that bicycle commuters are healthier, more productive, and require less time off at work. This is why most enlightened employers are eager to accommodate commuting cyclists. Healthy workers are better workers — and that’s good for the bottom line. Bikes are smart business.

5) Using a bike for transportation can help you lose weight and improve your overall health. The health benefits of regular aerobic exercise are well-known. Depending on your riding style and local road conditions, you could easily burn 600 calories an hour through brisk cycling. Most bike commuters report losing 15 to 20 pounds d

Isle of May razorbills

A New Post From Adam Brooker http://GlobalEyeImages.com/portfolio/AdamBrooker

I’ve just posted a new lightbox to GlobalEye Stock. Isle of May razorbills is a set of 24 Bird Photos and the second in a series of lightboxes on the bird life of the Isle of May in the Firth of Forth, Scotland.

As one of the rarest auks in the world, the 2500 breeding pairs of razorbills (Alca torda) on the Isle of May are an important stronghold for this species. They are the closest living relative of the extinct great auk (Pinguinis impennis). Razorbills only come ashore to breed, spending most of their time at sea, diving up to 120m to feed on small fish. They pair for life and lay a single egg each year, although less than 70% of chicks survive to fledgling on the Isle of May. In fact, during a recent visit, I witnessed a newly fledged razorbill predated from the water by a greater black-backed gull and smashed repeatedly on the rocks. Nature can be cruel, but that is life!

Canberra is a place of national politics but also of science, research and art. Many buildings, including those of the Australian National University or the Canberra Airport, are modern and often set among the native vegetation.

I’ve just published a new set of Bird photos to GlobalEye. Eurasian treecreeper is a lightbox of 9 select images documenting this beautiful and interesting bird that could be useful for a variety of commercial purposes.

The Eurasian treecreeper (Certhia familiaris) is a small passerine common in woodlands across Europe and Asia. In the British Isles, it prefers broadleaved woodland where it can be seen creeping up tree trunks using its long claws searching for insects in the bark with its long, curved bill. Its upper plumage is brown mottled with black and white, which provides excellent camouflage against tree bark, with a white underside and brown trail, which it uses for support as it ascends the tree.

Isle of May guillemots

A New Post From Adam Brooker http://GlobalEyeImages.com/portfolio/AdamBrooker

I’ve visited the Isle of May a couple of times this year, and although the guillemots dominate the cliffs in terms of numbers, they never cease to fascinate me. Sit and watch them for a while, and you will soon start to notice an avian soap opera playing out in front of you, with family members coming and going with food and neighbouring birds fighting and jostling for space on the tightly packed cliff ledges. There’s a strict hierarchy on the cliffs with the older birds claiming the top spots and the younger birds relegated to the lower spots where they are more likely to be washed off during storms.

I’ve just posted a new lightbox to my website: Isle of May guillemots is a set of 29 of my favourite guillemot Images suitable for a variety of commercial purposes.
